The New Castle

The hompage according to a construction project that can fulfill the dreams of many

Deutsche Version

How you can read easily in the headline, this is a quite ambitious project. It could be called even crazy. This homepage anyhow shall be the beginning. Here reactions shall be tried, contacts shall be created and the project shall be discussed.
To serve this purpose there is a discussion board, which is opened for everyone, who can contribute something in order to this theme. The language of this board shall be German, but you, as English speaking person, can post your ideas and opinions in English language. We will try to comment these in German language.

Okay, before you all think: “He is really mad!” and you do not read anymore, at least you want to leave this site at once, let me explain something other. This site and the board are not only for the construction project, but also a platform for all useful facts about middle age and a meeting point for all medieval friends of all kinds at best.
So look around and take what you need, take part at the creation of the site and the discussions on the board. In the “News” you can find what is new or details about the content of the site.

Now, lets go back to the project. Yes, what you read is right. Since I was a child, I would like to live on a Castle and because the needed change is missing, I decided to built my own one simply (not to live on, but for all the reasons written a bit lower on this page).
I was inspired to do this by those two projects. One is call “Bachritterburg” (Knight of the river´s Castle) at Kanzach. The other is the well known French project “Guedelon”. Now a city in Austria called Friesach wants to try the same.
Meanwhile the French project is a company with more than forty workers and they have 250 000 (twohundredandfiftythousand!!) visitors every year. The idea seems not to be as mad as it had sounded.

In my bold thoughts I am thinking of a small mountain castle of a high aristocrat, not, as it was thought first of a free noble, village aristocrat or some other lower aristocrats. In early medieval the castle of high aristocrats are also very overviewable. There were a majority of high aristocrats but only they could build castles at this time and these facilities must not resist heavy siege engines. The whole thing should be put, as said, in early medieval. From the year 1150 on, because in this time it was the custom in the region around the swabian mountains, where everything shall take place, that the high aristocrats were building nests on rocks to symbolize their state. More thoughts of these you will find on the page.
For those who could not imagine anything, my personal highlight of the whole site: “The example”. There you will find a ground plan, scribbles and a description according to a existing rock. Now you can imagine how the castle I am talking about could look.

Why the 12th Century, someone would ask. In my eyes it is most attractive, because there is nothing original left. Castles you see today were extended, rebuilt, pulled down and reconstructed many times and over ages. So it could be a challenge to rebuild something like that. You must research everything and you can see after you are complete what you cannot see in any place of the world. There is a practical argument too: In this time all castles were smaller. This will increase the chance of a conclusion in my lifetime.

This project shall connect experimental archaeology with medieval reenactors to a museal experience. Everything made, shall be done with the measures of corresponding time and shall be gain out of the surroundings of the castle place. Moreover the castle place shall be able to give space for markets during the building time. This means traders and reenactors shall be welcome. Also events like concerts or something like that are possible.

Aside of the friends of the middle age this project shall bear chances for long time unemployed as well as for craftsmen who search a new challenge, traders of the region, the business with guests, yes, the whole tourism industry of the region surrounding the castle place. Beside this I see the opportunity to sensiblize the constant growing community of medieval reenactors and friends for the remaining substances (castles, ruins and places) and their upkeep and conservation. This is one of my dearest wishes.

First of all you need a platform for this project. For this reason I have build this site. I need to stretch my feelers; see how something like that could be solved. To find a location to build this castle is the first hurdle to be taken.

Well, some words according to the organisation of the site. It should be the central of the theoretic part of the project. This means, everything that is written here will be the base of the discussions on the board. The results of the discussions will end on the site again. In the end on one hand there will be the construction project and on the other the discussion board, with the central and combining element, the homepage.
This page is created for a screen solution of 1280 x 960 pixels. If someone finds a fault or does have questions or answers: Diese E-Mail-Adresse ist gegen Spambots geschützt! Sie müssen JavaScript aktivieren, damit Sie sie sehen können.

If you want to link up my page on yours, feel free, but write me a short notice. For this purpose you will find a banner there.

The discussion board is open for everyone, who want to support our discussions. You will find neutral themes there, if your not really in the medieval thing.
Every answer, every word, will take us ahead, stimulate discussions and at least will be advertisement for the site, because you increase the chance to be found by a search engine. A good thing I think.

So:
You are very welcome!
